Who is Tender Loving Canines?

TLCAD began as a small non-profit, all volunteer organization in 1998 by the original founders, Steven Ross Fritsche, Heather Jo Fritsche & V. Lee Wells, with a goal to train service dogs for those seeking a fuller, more independent life. TLCAD became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in August 1999. In 2007, TLCAD earned accreditation from Assistance Dogs International (ADI).

The TLCAD Difference

R

TLCAD uses only positive reinforcement training methods.

R

In addition to purpose bred puppies, TLCAD partners with local shelters to adopt carefully assessed homeless dogs and trains them to become service dogs.

R

TLCAD partners with correctional institutions to teach inmates to raise and train service dogs through the Prisoners Overcoming Obstacles & Creating Hope (POOCH) program.

R

Placements are very personalized, TLCAD spends 4-6 months working with each client to teach them to effectively utilize their service dog in a variety of environments.

R

TLCAD’s placement process is very customized. There is not a waiting list but rather an applicant pool. When a dog is ready for placement, a client is selected whose needs are a match to the strengths and skills of the dog.

R

TLCAD provides ongoing support to the client for the working life of the dog.
